How To Put PayPal Donate Button on WordPress Blog

DollarPays

This is pretty simple just like what you see on my blog.

I adapted this method from http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=8411&page&replies=23. Thanks to sockcavern.

So, here we go:

  1. Make sure you have a PayPal account.
  2. Login in to your PayPal account.
  3. On the tab bar, choose “Merchant Tools”.
  4. In the left sidebar, choose “Website Payment Standards”.
  5. Under “Website Payment Standards” choose “Feature List”.
  6. Scroll down. Under “Payment Processing Options” find “Donations”.
  7. Click “Set it up”.
  8. In the “Donation Name/Service” field, enter a name for the project.
  9. In the “Donation ID/Number” field, you can enter any number or leave it blank.
  10. In the “Donation Amount” field, leaving it blank lets the donor decide how much to give.
  11. Choose a currency and country. (Probably that which you expect to receive most donations in and from, but you can choose any you like.)
  12. Scroll down to “Security Settings”.
  13. Choose “No” (Your email address will display to the donor, but the transaction will be secure.)
  14. Click “Create Button Now”.
  15. Ignore the “HTML Code for Websites” box. I said ignore it.
  16. In the “Link for Emails” box, there is another code. Copy it.
  17. Modify the code you have copied with change below:
    <a href="this is the code what you have copied"><img src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but04.gif" mce_src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but04.gif" alt="Please make some donations"></a>
  18. Open your WordPress Dashboard, go to “Presentation”.
  19. Click on “Widgets”.
  20. Make sure you have drag “Text 1″ onto left side panel.
  21. Give a title for the widget, for example “Donations” then paste the code there.
  22. If you want to make your button in center position, just put <div align="center"> in beginning then </div> in ending of code line.
  23. Save your widget change by clicking “Save Changes” button.
  24. Congratulations! You just have a PayPal Donation button.

PS: You can change the button look by choosing one of these:

Copy image link of button you have choosed then replace it in <img SRC="this is your button image link" />. You can just even create your own button if you wanted to.

I hope this will worthy for you. Happy donating! ;)

So sorry, you were SO clear but I’m still lost. I got as far as the text in the box and hit ‘save changes’ but it just goes back to the original text box info on the side bar. I copied from the text in paypal and added the code you said but…it goes right back to the original when I hit ‘save changes’. There’s not a widget that says Donations. And then how do you get THAT to your post???

  4. frozenade says:

Text “Donations” was created by my self.
Make sure you’ve paste in “Text” widget.

Goodstuff. Works for me. Just a quick not for anyone interested in centering their button. You can use the instructions in step 21 or you can use this code:

    <a href="this is the code what you have copied"><img class="aligncenter" src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but04.gif&quot; mce_src="https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but04.gif&quot; alt="Please make some donations"></a>

Thank you for sharing this tip with us.

  31. If you want to centralize the button it’s better to use div align=”center” and and remember to put it within it is a piece of HTML code. I did it on my website and it worked just fine.. and it is the easiest way I’ve found. :)

  35. Dolors says:

    Hi,

I was doing some research on how to create a “donate” button to put on my website and found some interesting information, so I thought I would share it here.

It seems Paypal is not happy with companies / individuals who use the “donate” button, unless they are a charity. Several people are complaining Paypal froze their account claiming inappropriate use of the “donate” button, which apparently is only to be used by charities or non-profit organisations.

I have decided to create my own button and put something else other than “donate” on it. Also I will investigate about the “Buy me a beer” pluggin for WordPress or other similar alternatives.

Hope this helps somebody else as well.

    Dolors

So probably the best option si

  36. Thanks, nice workaround :)

  37. frozenade says:

    thanks for the opinion, Dolors

I can’ see their make donate button option under the website payments menu.
    what’s the problem?

  40. Sagar Dewang says:

As Dolors said above I think paypal has closed their make Donate button option.
Tell any other Trick for making the button please!
